Driving out on your own
Calling home from the road
Standing out in the freezing cold
Heading out to the coast
Moving parallel with shoreline posts
Trailing close behind traveling shows
And you had never thought of leaving
Till the fourth of July
When you woke up in the middle of the night
With the window cracked
You started to cry
I've been changing with the seasons
Staring down into a hole
Digging up every thought I've known
And on the day that it got better
When all the colors seemed to turn
It felt enough and I just came undone
I never thought it would do much
To try and talk through all the pain
But then you called me in the middle of the day
Through a thunderstorm
I watched it blow away
As you watched the sun get lower
A kind of glimmer in your eyes
I think I saw something move you inside
