Shadows come in the morning light

I saw your face and it didn’t look right

All the doors were locked

and I couldn’t get out

And it was always Monday again

Pour the coffee we were raising men

without a plan and

nowhere to go

All at once I was on my own

Just a broken dream trying not to throw stones

Never gonna be the light. in your eyes

Never gonna be the hope. in your heart

I was never ever…never gonna be your hero

Maybe if we had more time

There’d be a little bit more peace of mind

The house was on fire and

nobody was listening

You never had a thing to say

when the walls came down and I went away

…But I was always here

I was here every day.

Now I’m knocking at your door

With a fistful of memories that don’t matter anymore

You believe what you want to believe

and I’ll still be right here.
