Scruff

Yesterday I thought that I'd try leaving

I cleaned and polished my claws

Stepped out on the gravelly pavement

Didn't like what I saw

If there's something better out there for me

I don't know what it is

I thought that I could manage

But I guess that I was full of it

So the next time that you grab me by the scruff of my neck

And throw me in the garden because I made you upset

I'll remember that you love me cause it's something you said

I owe you cause you fed me and it's making you mad

If I had the money then I'd just pay you back

Now I eat too much dairy and it makes my stomach sick

Want to go back to the hearth with you

Been waiting ever since

Give me something to rely on now

Be hasty I'm half-blind with doubt

I thought that I'd like freedom but I guess I'm better off without
