Good Grief pt. 1

Plant your tongue in your cheek and ruin everything

Every syllable you breathe is setting me off tonight

We were doomed from the start; it's true I don't do well when we're apart

But in this moment we'd both be better off alone

Because I cannot restrain this constant ticking in my brain

It's tallying the ways that I've been wronged or I've been wrong

And the ways that I've let down the ones that I cannot let down

And the things that I had wished that I had done

But no grief is good grief and no grief is bad

Sometimes we need to mourn the things we lost or never had

And no time is wasted and no moments die

It all seems too good to be true as it's passing you by

The thought of leaving anything for posterity feels like describing a new color to me

Salad days are in the past, did we know they wouldn't last?

We pulled the ladder up behind us so no one else could know our peace

We're forever staying cool; we're immune to any rule

Caring about anything is so embarrassing

And they can't honor the truce that they brokered in our youths

The truth is always picking someone else's side

And no grief is good grief and no grief is bad

And no grief is good grief and no grief is bad

And no time is wasted and no moments die

Maybe nothing has a point but it'd be pointless not to try
