Earthbound

I used to watch the world from a distance

Out where resistance

And gravity were not my problem

I had no notion where I was floating

Stars were exploding

In a dream

But then you came along

And pulled me here

Into your atmosphere

I'm now earthbound

Time never seemed to make an impression

But on closer inspection

I was wrong, so wrong

I keep my focus locked on the one thing

That blocks out the spinning

Of the sky

What once was blue and green

And spherical

Is a messy miracle

I'm now earthbound

Every balding tree is an omen

Every backyard snowman

Certain not to last the winter

But because I want to see you growing

I am going to remain

And as the heat returns

And burns the lawn

I will be holding on

Til I'm earthbound
