Lyrics

Nobody gives a damn
And nobody takes the cake
Nobody gets enough sleep
But nobody's ever really awake
So we go into the forest
Like a pair of dryads should
When nothing's feeling solid
At least we can knock on wood
We hear a groaning like the timbers of a ship at sea
We know we're listening to the death throes of a tree
And it landed with a sickening thud
The other trees heard their brother tree fall
Nobody here to hear it at all
Except us, singing the chorus
Couple of nobodies, here in the forest
Hearing that thud
Sickening thud
The grove it starts to tumble
Like a line of dominoes
No one to bear witness but us, and the ravens and crows
So we run back to the city
To tell everyone the news
But no one wants to listen to the Chicken Little blues
We hear the groaning of indifference and apathy
Nobody cares about the omen of the tree
And it landed with a sickening thud
The other trees heard their brother tree fall
Nobody here to hear it at all
Except us, singing the chorus
Couple of nobodies, here in the forest
Hearing that thud
Sickening thud
Well, we're not trying to get environmental on your ass
But a bleeding heart still pumps blood
Sometimes you call bullshit and sometimes you speak the truth
But it always seems to land...
With a sickening thud
Sickening thud
It's jacaranda season
On the northeast side of town
There's a purple haze of flowers
In the air and on the ground
But they're firing up a chainsaw
And it doesn't make a sound
When a tree falls in the city
And there's nobody but nobodies around
A splash of violet gone forever from a third floor view
A single passerby looks up like she might hear it, too
And it landed with a sickening thud
The other trees heard their brother tree fall
Nobody here to hear it at all
Except us, singing the chorus
Couple of nobodies, here in the forest
Hearing that thud
Sickening thud
Sickening
