Lyrics

Wild strawberries cover a yard
That's clumped in clover
As buttercups, wet with rain
And dew, grow through
The tasseled grass as
Dandelions grow over
Straining and reclaiming
Nature from
The suburban order
What lies in the forest just beyond
In the dark under the trees
Behind the rock wall
Past the lawn where the fireflies end?
A bear came out of that wood
And romped around our neighborhood
Ripped off a screen door and
Jumped on a trampoline
And then he snuck up behind
The Reverend Dave unseen
All the while challenging
Our sanitized way
Of being
Why not go out into his world
And walk to and fro
And up and down on it?
Why do we keep inside
Our manicured lawn
With a hedge about us
On every side?
Privileged and living easily but
Trapped by our own divide
