Lyrics
He grew up ‘round these parts
Just over them there hills
His daddy worked raisin’ cattle
To pay the family’s bills
No, their house wasn’t much
But they had a roof overhead
And the garden mama grew
Kept their little family fed
But one day a man came knockin’
In a fancy pinstripe suit and said
“I got a note here from the government
And it says you get the boot”
“They’re gonna build a road here,”
Or so the man explained
“And they’ve got the right to do it
It’s called eminent domain”
Oh how his parents cried
But there was nothing they could do
Put their belongings into boxes
And within the month they moved
Now the boy was upset
He knew something wasn’t right
But I am just a boy, he thought
How could I begin to fight?
So he hunkered down
And studied very hard
He grew up and went to law school
And then he passed the bar
Now he’s a farm lawyer
A real Atticus Finch
Except he does farm law
He really found his niche
When the big man comes a’kockin’
He is there to represent
The humble little farmer
With his farm law arguments
The judges all agree
And so does every jury
They say he’s the best farm lawyer
In the whole state of Missouri
And I’ll tell you what, folks
This story here is true
The farm lawyer is my daddy
And he ain’t afraid to sue
