Lyrics

While playing the hit, it punched me squarely in the jaw
Nearly missed a beat, but the audience had no clue
What was I to do? I walked through the motions
I knew I was done long before anyone
The loud applause no longer worked
A swift and explicit change
I've lost my passion
What the hell happened?
I've lost my passion for playing and singing on stage
What once was a joy now works like a cage
What a swift and explicit change
As the days turned to weeks, I mourned but I also felt free
The mountainous sense for approval for my art was no longer a need
And the wide, bright expanse of performance had lost it's romance
For the first time I knew the unsettling glee of living without any plan
Creating songs no longer worked
A sharp and sudden change
I've lost my passion
What the hell happened?
I've lost my passion for playing and singing on stage
What once was a joy now works like a cage
What a swift and explicit change
I bleed like a victory!
The rest of the band can't look me in the eyes
I broke the group up and said my goodbyes
I knew I'd never look back but still didn't know why
Such a fast, dramatic surprise
I came to without a muse
The colors of my world were brighter hues than I had ever seen before
Every inch felt unexplored
It was terrifying and I wanted more
Reconnecting with old friends
Reading books through to the end
Or sitting with the silence of my thoughts
It's a pleasure just to rot
Who knew having no meaning would sweeten every second that I've got?
I've lost my passion
For screaming and dancing on stage
What once was a pleasure now feels like a pain
It was my sanctuary and it's now up in flames
As I stand in the street while the ash falls like rain
And the plaque in the foyer with my engraved name
Will burn with the pews and the alter and the frame
And I assumed I'd always be there chasing my own fame
Devoted to myself, no limits to my shame
What a quick and explicit change
