GRATEFUL

I keep your pictures safely tucked away

With those letters we wrote on those rainy days

Hell I still laugh at things we'd say

In those days we'd talk for hours

And there were nights when we would fall apart

When we'd go stumbling drunk through Lincoln Park

We'd find our way through the dark

To walk among the flowers

We were younger than we'd ever been

It was really nobody's fault

Now I'm grateful for it all

There were days I was more than destitute

In the palaces of the ill repute

I was an underpaid misfit prostitute

Just staring at the ceiling

There were times of abject cruelty

That bordered on insanity

I wondered what it was you must have thought of me

It burned a hole inside

For the good and the bad, the happy and sad

The hurting the rise and the fall

I'm just grateful for it all

There were times when I was in no condition

But I drove anyway.

I was headed for a head on collision

I couldn't get out of my way

Maybe when my time has come

And I'm riding off into the sun

I'm gonna say a little prayer for everyone

Who gave my life some meaning

For the joy and the pain, sunshine and rain

And those days that will make you crawl

I'm just grateful for it all
