Lyrics

Freshly cut grass, charcoal and gas
It’s getting hot in the valley
Still some snow on the pass
I got a couple scraped up knees
And my first bee sting
I even got my first kiss
From the girl that lived behind me
I wanna go back to the summer of sixth grade
And if I could I’d make the most there’s not a moment of it I would trade
‘Cause if youth is truly wasted on the young
Then at least we did it right and had our fun
There was something ‘bout that summer and the memories we made
They’re still shaping who I am today
The summer of sixth grade
Smell of rain on the asphalt
Playing basketball
I bought a second hand skateboard
From my neighbor, Paul
So I built a couple skate ramps
And started up a garage band
Went swimming in the river
And learned how to set up camp
I wanna go back to the summer of sixth grade
And if I could I’d make the most there’s not a moment of it I would trade
‘Cause if youth is truly wasted on the young
Then at least we did it right and had our fun
There was something ‘bout that summer and the memories we made
They’re still shaping who I am today
The summer of sixth grade
The future was forever
And hope was ours to find
We were losing track of time
Staying up all night
Lying on the trampoline
Talking about our big, big dreams
What was coming our way
Was sure to be great
I wanna go back to the summer of sixth grade
And if I could I’d make the most there’s not a moment of it I would trade
‘Cause if youth is truly wasted on the young
Then at least we did it right and had our fun
I am grateful for that summer and the memories we made
They’re playing over in my brain
And still shaping who I am today
The summer of sixth grade
