Lyrics

I really had nothin
When I was growin up man I really had nothin
Had just enough grub but I really had nothin
Place to rest and a tub but I really had nothin
Just a little bit of love but I really had nothin
When I was young I used to sleep on the floor
Had a closet for a room and a sheet for a door
And I was always hungry never askin for more
Cause you learn to be humble when you comin up poor
All the other kids made fun of my clothes
Same shirt every day and some jeans with holes
Used to pray every night that my dreams unfold
Kept my head held high but self esteem was low
Pops hustled hard just to pay all the bills
But we barely got moms addiction was real
Started writing poetry hopin to heal
Then I started writin raps and tellin stories you feel
Every other night top ramen for dinner
Had an oven as a heater keepin warm through the winter
Tough love from my parents I was raised by sinners
Wish my mom could see me now I’m in a circle of winners
I really had nothin
When I was growin up man I really had nothin
Had just enough grub but I really had nothin
Place to rest and a tub but I really had nothin
Just a little bit of love but I really had nothin
Age 10 daddy gone gotta do what I must
Older brother in a group home I'm losing my trust
Hand me downs everybody dressing cooler than us
Every year a new school different fools on the bus
Always moving and living on the border of suffering
Food pantry for dinner wish we could order up something
Got 3 brothers though tell me what's a quarter of nothing
Straight depressed when my parents got divorced I was struggling
Forced into hustling broke so I started working
Slanging papers after school working hard determined
Buying CDs and clothes staying smart and learning
But still I couldn't understand why my heart was hurting
On the edge I used to pray I don't fall
In survival mode though we was breaking the law
Hella homies gone now they just hang on the wall
But even if I could I wouldn't change it at all
I really had nothin
When I was growin up man I really had nothin
Had just enough grub but I really had nothin
Place to rest and a tub but I really had nothin
Just a little bit of love but I really had nothin
