Mirror Lake

Back in time, another world

we were so young, just boys and girls

you were quiet even then,

kinda strange

I never knew you very well

I never tried, sorry to tell

sorry still, since you have gone

so far away

On the edges of the crowd

those crazy boys, so wild and loud

you looked at me and seemed to say

‘lets just go’

But I held on, or it held me

wanting to seem, afraid to be

and the moment slipped away

til it was gone

    The highway never sleeps

    even when you’re dreaming

    Wandering days don’t end

    you just wear out your shoes

    Through the wind and rain

    the sunlight is waiting

    just an old memory

    a lighter shade of blue

Though we sprouted from the ground

side by side, in our hometown

we became the leaves that blow

so far away

And we spiral across space

never going back to that place

where the water’s still, a perfect mirror

on the lake
