My doctor told me I was dying

And there was nothing I could do

She said hey don't you cry - it ain't all about you

Say can't you take a joke joker everybody's gotta face it

But it tougher when the joke's on you

Yeah you better check your level if you're dancing with the devil like you do

So Saturday I went out drinking

I had whiskey and wine

I drank beer and tequila all the poisons that'll fill ya when you're blue

Drove my dodge to the lodge and we played all night

Saying this'll be the day that I die

I was wrecking like a rebel then I danced with the devil rammalloo

And we all sing Hey hey it's gonna be alright

There ain't no reason to stay up half the night

You can roll your rock up every hill but you're never gonna push it through

Just keep it on the level when you're dancing with the devil like you do

When I woke up Sunday morning

Everything hurt

I cried out who do you think you're fooling

You can carry on carrying your worries and your troubles

Like a gol darn, broke-barn fool

But you better check your level if you're dancing with the devil like you do

In that first verse I was lying

I don't have a doctor

But I got a couple good old friends always reading Ram Das

They say the jokes on me and the jokes on you

If you're thinking that there's anything that anyone can do

You gotta keep it level when you're dancing with the devil like you do

And we all sing Hey hey it's gonna be alright

There ain't no reason to stay up half the night

You can roll that rock up every hill but you're never gonna push it through

Just keep it on the level when you're dancing with the devil like you do

Oh my old friend you better keep it on the level when you're dancing with the devil like you do

Oh you better keep it on the level when you're dancing with the devil like you do
