Ash flakes down from autumn fires

Cold as the cruel hands of death, it conspires

Smothers the land with no room to respire

Once a warm scarlet flame

Blooming bright as the day

To a smouldering funeral pyre

I am an ember among the snow

Softly hissing and faintly aglow

When it is my time I will know

From the coals whence I came

To the earth

I will go
