Petty at a Funeral

No parking on the service road

Moss covered dug out headstones

Cutting like an arrow through a day

Another loss is nothing less

When learned to drain the excess

Turn again you’re inside of a room

Glancing back out of a bow window

Freaking out now in the upstairs hall

Blinding eyes out with those flowers of white they’ve come to give me

There’s no one living in this house at all

But what’s behind the walls?

Canvassing your loveliness

Is only giving absence

Holding down the hearts of ones you knew

Kettle on the kitchen stove is screaming

“Why can’t you let go?”

Of the platter trays for people mourning you

Glancing back out of the bow window

Could have sworn I saw a summer snow
