Morning Light

I remember long ago

When we drove down to Mexico

Slept on the beach

We were in love

Made plans for the following year

To drive north to see Mount Rainier

But life did what she does

And we lost touch

And I wonder where you are tonight

Is there someone by your side

Do you feel lonely in spite

Do you remember me

Ever think of me

In the morning light

Heard you went on to MIT

And made your name in New York City

Had a daughter

She looks just like you

And I wonder if you still read

Poetry and eat cheddar cheese

Still better to have written

Than to write

And I wonder where you are tonight

Is there someone by your side

Do you feel lonely in spite

Do you remember me

Ever think of me

In the morning light

Twenty something years have passed

And I finally made it out to the Northwest

Pine smells sweeter

Than we ever dreamed

And I wonder what

Life had been like if I never picked that fight

And we drove out here

All those years ago

And I wonder where you are tonight
