Lyrics

LEITRIM FIELDS
Our childhood days began with breakfast and a prayer
Underneath the Dartry Mountains, with love from those who cared
Walked to school near Melvin shores, in Whitens curragh winds
Where four masters wrote our history, so near those Leitrim Fields
My father cycled to Kinlough, to the creamery for his work
On summer evenings he was busy, saving hay and turf
We’d walk three miles to meet him, bringing sandwiches and tea
Run barefooted through the heather, as we played in those Leitrim Fields.
My uncle mended shoes in Ballyshannon town
Where my mother trained to dressmake, making clothes for those around
At home she sewed at her machine, amid our constant needs
While the rhythm of the pedals rang out in those Leitrim fields
Walking to Bundoran , I passed anglers on the Drowse
Made buns for Lough Derg Pilgrims, in Miss Crowders eating house
Danced in the Astoria, watched Grand Central’s film reels,
Swam in Atlantic waves that were/could be seen from those L Fs. .
I married a kind and peaceful man , we faced our lives together
On each side of the Atlantic, our children, they have settled
Now they bring our grandchildren, so they’ll know and they’ll feel,
I pray they know the love I knew when I grew in those Leitrim Fields
CHORUS Arroo Sliabh Arroo, you witnessed all our dreams
And hold on to the memories, we made in those LFs.
