There's a level of disconnection there that you just sort of have to feel

Guantanamo Bay was called a black site, some sort of detention center where prisoners are not offered any sort of charges or trial

They're just held indefinitely, usually tortured with the intent of extracting critical information from them

But Guantanamo was not the only black site

The CIA has made use of black sites all across the world for years

These black sites began to rise to prominence after the September 11th attacks

During the invasion of Afghanistan, the CIA began to set up these sites to hold prisoners who were suspected of being associated with or connected to Al-Qaeda

A site in a closed down brick factory north of Kabul, a site in Thailand established in 2002, and of course the famous Guantanamo Bay

These sites were home to numerous methods of torture that were brutal, unrelenting, and excessive

And there was a massive campaign to have these places shut down after George W. Bush left office, especially considering the fact that multiple prisoners there were found to have no connections to any terrorist groups whatsoever

But they were still tortured for years

This campaign eventually filtered out after the public lost interest

Guantanamo Bay is still running to this day
