Save the Day was Blair and I again in the basement. All I can say

About this one is, you know, Blair and Troy both are such a big part

Of this record. They are sort of best buds from way back. And I sort

Of joined along and we became this kind of Three Amigos thing and

Did a lot of traveling together. In a lot of this record, most of

The traveling was to the UK and France. But they both come from

Louisiana, and anybody that's been there and knows anybody from the

. It's culturally unoriginal. I mean, there's no other place like

That and there's an attention to language that comes from that area

That I've always admired. And Blair and Troy were just constantly

Obsessing over phrases they'd hear somebody say. Sometimes it

Came from things in Louisiana. Sometimes we would go to London

And some random person we met over there would say a phrase like "

Sum it up," for example, which, you know, that's a line in this

Song. This record is full of those things. The song "Paris," "

I can't give you Paris," that's another example of this kind of

Language that they spoke that was... I was so curious about. And

It got to the point at the time where the three of us could be

Out somewhere and it was almost like this other language that the

Three of us were speaking. We could talk about things in front of

A group of people and nobody would know what we were saying. It

Was like a code. And a lot of these phrases ended up in these songs

As I look back and listen to it now, I mean, right from the guitar

Riff at the top of the song, you could tell that I was listening to

A lot of Radiohead. There are things harmonically about the modes and

Things like that. This one kind of has that, not to get all music

Nerdy, but that kind of mixolydian or sharp five thing, which kind of

Goes against some of the rules of common voice leading, which

Radiohead was, and a lot of other British bands at that time

Around the turn of the millennium, that was kind of the sound

In North America, we usually play chords in such a way that

You could, that you can tell what the next chord is we're

Probably going to go to. And at the time in that kind of music

It was the opposite, which was really fun. And incidentally

The drum track for this song came from Blair's mother's Casio

Keyboard that we found in his basement, which I think is hilarious
