Lyrics

It's twelve o'clock
It's the dead of night
And not a single living thing is in sight
It's the kind of night
Where you want to be held tight,
But there's something in the air that just don't feel right
As the clouds obscure the moon
Two figures come into view
They both felt something in the chill air
that made them a little strange
But they don't realize how much their lives are about to change
She's a wild girl with a white dress on
She jumped over the fence at dawn
Her father drove her off the farm
And he works in the fields all day
Not going to throw his life away
Circling like the hawks
Meet me at the maple tree
At the equinox
After that night, they went back home
But neither of them could stand being alone
Those cold nights chilled them to the bone
As they huddled in the dark
And heard the wind moan
They met again, and her father found them out
The woods were filled with screams and shouts
He chased her lover round the bend
Threatened to kill him
If he ever showed his face again
The harvest moon was in the air
Twigs were caught in her matted hair
All of her possessions in a box
As she fled for the tree
At the equinox
By the time he got there
It was all too late
The poor girl left alone, resigned to her fate
Upon seeing her lying there, he knelt as he cried
And under the maple tree
He rests by his lover's side
They were wild lovers torn apart
Fate played a cruel hand on their hearts
By the ticking of the clock
They died at the tree
At the equinox
