Lyrics

Met at the doctor’s office
Yet another week
This time it was a Wednesday
Plucked up the courage
And as I'm about to speak
She starts filling out her papers
My mother says, with a lump in her throat
“It's a young life we’re talking about”
The lady suddenly stands up to leave
There’s a phone call she forgot about
Tired of waiting rooms
Tired of trying to prove
That I am ill enough
But I still want to get better
Met at the doctor’s office
Yet another week
This time it was a Friday
Plucked up the courage
And as I'm about to speak
I see a gentle look on his face
I don't know what happened
But I started to cry
Without a warning sign
I think that’s the first time
I've felt someone care
And not just as a number in line
Tired of waiting rooms
Tired of trying to prove
That I am ill enough
But I still want to get better
Tired of feeling ashamed
Tired of trying to explain
That I am ill enough
But I still want to get better
I swallowed the poison
So it swallowed me whole
I found out in ways
That were uncomfortable
Now I know, it wasn't my fault
And I start reminiscing
Over things that I said
And the ways that I said it
Made sense to me then
Now I know, it was not my fault
Does the lady at the desk
Know the power that she has?
If the roles would be reversed
How would she feel about that?
Met at the doctor’s office
Yet again this week
I saw you in the hallway
I said “if you’d like it we can meet up at three
and I'll tell you about who saved me”
At the bench in the park
Couldn't help
I saw the butterfly effect
I'm here to tell you it’s going to be ok
If nobody has told you yet
