Lyrics

At 41 years of age, I've seen so much change.
Social media came along, and now we're all estranged.
Hate encouraged all across the lands,
Some even banned from the family,
All because of an orange man.
It doesn't matter where you live or who you are;
You'll be judged for the way you think,
Regardless of where you view the stars.
We have cures for diseases,
But making billions is more pleasing.
It's the only reason so many aren't breathing.
I'm going to be the best that I can be,
Even when no one is around to see.
I'll stay true, regardless of what's in my view.
Too few like to do what good humans should do.
COVID-19 sure complicated things.
My twins' first day of school was sitting behind screens.
Most of their classmates today still struggle to interact.
They can debate church or state,
But they can't complete their math.
It's so sad; the world's really bad.
Probably said by generations before,
By every mom and dad.
Everything that I need, I guess I have,
But what I want is peace of mind,
So daily I'm trying to grab.
Doors for strangers,
And smile through the anger,
Move snow for my neighbors,
Because that gesture isn't major.
An act of kindness, like
Paying it forward in line,
Won't change the world overnight,
But can help it over time.
I'm going to be the best that I can be,
Even when no one is around to see.
I'll stay true, regardless of what's in my view.
Too few like to do what good humans should do.
Will politics change
How we behave?
Blue and red, like Crip & Blood,
Bystanders even catching strays.
It's easier for some,
And more difficult for others,
To stop being enemies
And become better brothers,
Sisters and daughters,
Mothers and fathers.
We let the bullshit go
To focus on what makes us prosper.
But smartphones have us under watch,
Like a stalker. Algorithms fog our visions,
Like we have no defroster.
More compassion and understanding
I'm trying to foster,
If not for me,
Then for my future granddaughter,
Meadow.
Gotta leave the world in a better state,
And that ain't gonna happen
By living full of hate.
I'm going to be the best that I can be,
Even when no one is around to see.
I'll stay true, regardless of what's in my view.
Too few like to do what good humans should do.
Too few
Like to do
What a good human should do.
Too few
Like to do
What a good human should do.
