Lyrics

so I let jesus take the wheel and he drove me off a cliff
he wasn't looking at the road – he was showing off his drifts
we drifted down to the bottom
& he was telling me some truths – as he flipped the RV through
360 degrees – he said 'I still love you'
but nothing crucifies our lord – like the threat of being bored
you'd be a thrill-seeker yourself, if you had immortal health
we drift on down – to the bottom
so one by one I drop beliefs
 rationalise them on the cheap
 never felt so naked till…
 & sometimes armour stripped away
is the only game to play
 to feel nakedly human still
so I let the devil lease my soul, on a time-share rent controlled
one careful owner, not too old: debts accounted – seen as sold
he seemed so keen for me to sign - I thought he was just being nice
but the devil's in the detailed parts – he got a freehold on my heart
drifting down – to the bottom
so one by one I drop beliefs
listed & sold them on the cheap
 never felt so naked till…
 & sometimes armour stripped away
is the only game to play
 to feel nakedly human still
so we drifted down – to the bottom
where good things drown – at the bottom
all the way down – to the bottom
& this wretched town – at the bottom
I took an angel as my friend – their wings were bullet-proof to them
their feathers always made me sneeze – I spent the whole time on my knees
my angel got kind of depressed – told me I should get some rest
when I woke up they were gone – they left a halo to try on
