Lyrics

I see my youth, a dying rose
A rusted key to doors I chose
I built my walls so high and steep
And buried all my oaths too deep
The hourglass sand is falling fast
And every grain might be the last
The boat is here, the debt is due
For the only life I ever knew
Put two coins upon my eyes
To pay the fare across all time
The river's rising, cold and deep
A final promise I must keep
Old Charon's lantern is the light
That guides me through the endless night
This eulogy is my release
The cost of my eternal peace
If I could turn back the sands of time
I'd walk that road I left behind
I'd mend the seams that came apart
And stitch the sorrow in my heart
But I can't fight the turning tide
There's nowhere left to run or hide
The clock runs down, the candles weep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
Put two coins upon my eyes
To pay the fare across all time
The river's rising, cold and deep
A final promise I must keep
Old Charon's lantern is the light
That guides me through the endless night
This eulogy is my release
The cost of my eternal peace
The oar breaks through the oily black
A one-way journey, no way back
A thousand leaves all falling down
A silent king without a crown
And every star that I can see
Is just a long lost memory
So lay me down, the time is right
And push the boat into the night
The final fare, a fading gleam
The ending of a waking dream
Just a feather, turning in the flame
May the wind still whisper out my name
