Lyrics

March twenty-sixth, back in 20-1-6,
Pulled up 'round six, dry lips, heard the door hinge click,
Walked in — met her folks and four more,
Her smile lit five senses plus one more
I had her on my left, right wasn't on my side,
Desire pinched my nerves, felt I'd ruin the night,
Tucked my nerves in my jeans — but they poked through the rips,
Thought I'd embarrass her, my heart kept doing skips
Found a quiet spot in the mall, German food menu,
Nerves began to fade, like the world shrank for two,
She spoke soft, words carved deep like her dimples,
Three hours of memories, her flow sent ripples
Didn't want the night to end, her presence moved me,
Didn't wanna go — the movie couldn't soothe me,
Full house, few seats left in the front row,
Shoulda skipped it, preferred to watch her glow
In the end, we drove back to her place,
She opened up — her voice rich like cognac taste,
Then we stepped out, one hug — to this day it remains,
It still doesn't feel real…like she was desert rain.
Desert rain, I been chasin for years,
Thirst got me quenched — drought lasted 8 years,
Body went NUMB…it's been too long,
Kept goin BACK…so I wrote this song
Desert rain, I been chasin for years,
Thirst got me quenched — drought lasted 8 years,
Body went NUMB…it's been too long,
Kept goin BACK…so I wrote this song
Never thought I'd relapse past tendency,
Foggy-eyed, tight chest — heart pumpin' semi,
Nights weighed heavy when I laid to rest,
Haunted by flashbacks that eased distress
Malt liquor became my new desire,
A cruel love that burned but never expired,
Spoke in 40 tongues, Olde English dialect,
It was the only way left for me to recollect
I'd recover archived actions, from Jan to June,
Same rituals on repeat, every full moon,
Same exact songs, movies and outfits,
No hug this time—just habits with consequence
Dreams came corrupted — pixelated pain,
Looked at me like files that can't be saved,
I sat in the same booth, reliving the scene,
Cause what I needed wasn't her — it was peace
Thought I had all this under control,
But chasing desire came with a heavy toll,
For her it was just one night, no gain,
Guess it was as real as a desert rain
I wish I had it all…but like perfection…a desert rain was just illusion
