Lyrics

"Car Keys" is a previously unreleased track, first recorded and released for the "Requiem For A City Band" garage sessions.
I buttoned up my silk cuffs and pulled on my lucky jeans
Patted down my jacket, but the pockets been picked clean
I found her sofa lounging, laser-locked on trash TV
Polite as a diplomat, I asked, "Honey you seen my keys?"
She was ticking like a time bomb, acting out like she was dumb
Right then I saw my Playboy keychain twirling on her thumb
And I said
Gimme back my car keys, I got things to do downtown
Gimme back my car keys, got no time for foolin' round
It might look to you like justice
But it's just insane to me
Gimme back my keys
She turned and flashed a face that'd put an angel in his grave
I knew she saw my dress boots, and smelled my Woolworth's after shave
The air was thick with fury like the scene before a crime
She jumped up spitting kerosene, saying, "Tonight I draw the line"
She knee-capped me with a straight chair and mad-dashed across the floor
She left skid marks down the hallway, slammed and locked the bathroom door
And I said
Gimme back my car keys...
Through the door she lectured long and loud about sin and lowdown men
All the while I was at the keyhole with a screwdriver in my hand
It crossed my desperate mind to head out and flag down a bus
But I froze dead when I heard Ker-Splash, then the Johnny flush
I dropped the tool and shoulder-rammed the door right off its frame
Just in time to watch my car keys spinning down the drain
I said hey
Gimme back my car keys...
