Lyrics

Last year’s a blur to me
I started strong in therapy
Now we’re working through all that unprocessed trauma
But I think there was something kind of nice about
Cutting all my insides out
And putting them on shelves in private corners
I found a coffee shop that pays a decent living wage
But it’s a job that can be done by someone else
So I think it’s finally time that I grew a fucking spine
And started doing something for myself
I’ve got places that I want to be
And some people that I still need to meet
With the potential to bring out the best of me
Then we can forget about the rest of -
Last year’s anxieties and my borderline sobriety
Hit their lowest point in a Cincinnati venue
I was coming to after a night that I can’t remember
With Fran and friends in mid November
I was crying and laughing and screaming
“I love you, I left you, and I’m leaving it here”
When I finally took my leave after prying off the grief
I got stuck inside the fucking elevator
Spent that time talking to your dad about the things I never said
And we both cried, because we knew you would have been there
(You would have)
We’ve got people that we need to be
And there’s comfort in the consistency
With the potential to bring out the best of us
So we can forget about the rest of us
I kept moving when my muscles had atrophied
In still moments you were still my favorite book to read
Between lines that I can’t keep reciting back
I left our novel in the elevator shaft
I guess I closed with some resolve and as the doors were opening up
I chose to part with the chaos of our swells
So if you’re counting down the days
And the ways you take up space
It’s okay to see the ocean by yourself
(Oh, last year?)
I’ve got places that I want to be
And some people that I still need to meet
With the potential to bring out the best of me
Then we can forget about the rest of it
