Lyrics

Down the street from the crib was the local town square
Growing up as a kid I spent a lot of time there
As I got older, and the kid first started working
There was a check cashing place with a clerk I used to flirt with
I was there every Friday right after my shift
And swore one day I was gonna press up on this chick
The day finally came on my way from the warehouse
Nervous, thinking in my head how it would play out
Thinking bout my pay out excited on arrival
Then I seen the cops outside with they rifles
At the liquor store get my cash ask what happen
And the homie told me cats ran up in there blasting
Madness, even killed the girl at the entrance
Found the shooter round the way, gave em a life sentence
Like damn, wish I woulda had the chance to chase her
Later found out that the shooter was my neighbor
It was 5 AM, I was outside for a run
Ran past a man, weird there's usually none
Just another bum so I thought nothing of it
Turned the music up and I just kept running
Hour later walked in hoped in the shower
Heard 2 shots pop, placed my brush on the counter
In the distance but I could tell that it was close
But no, those things don't happen this close to home
On the way to school we noticed the streets closed
Surrounded by cops and uc's in street clothes
Turns out the man I had walk past and seen
Was really waiting outside plotting a scheme
Waiting for a man to leave on his way to work
Seen em getting in his car he put two in his shirt
But the word is he's connected, and his head had been marked
And now we see his tombstone on our walks to the park
Down the street from my crib on my block a little further
Let me tell you about the time I first witnessed a murder
I was in junior high at a party with my brother
Moms made em take me along, was that kind of mother
Shared
He sent me to the crib for some shit he had forgot
And on my way. I got to the corner by the stop
I looked across the street and saw man standing
Ranting to the car at the stop sign banging
Then I saw a hand come out of the back seat
Couple shots popped and I seen the man bleed
I was in shock felt like I can't breath
Then the killers turned left and drove right past me
A few years past and as fate would have it
Saw the same car pull up to my man's crib
Turns out they were friends, and we started to kick it
And he told me to never bring up what I had witnessed
