Lyrics

I saw a fox on the trail, it started stopped, then carried on
No question where it was going, no doubt where it belonged
A light footstep, red fur neatly in place
It looked at me a moment, a calm expression on its face
There a moment, another moment and its gone
Disappearing into memory, a new heart song
To tuck away, when the nights they are long
When nothing is right and everything feels wrong
We looked for a trace, on the trail, the sand and the stone
It could have been a dream but we’d be fools to think we stood alone
Every rock knows a story, and the the river is in the know
Everyone of us an echo of all who come and go
Here a moment, another moment and its gone
Our lives a dream, ripples in a pond
Radiating out touching shores near and far
Most of us are far bigger than we think we are
I wouldn’t have known the fox was there if I hadn’t seen it w/ my own eyes
Like every person my heart has loved who could have remained a passerby
If I hadn’t stopped a moment, slowed down from my self concern
Opened to a new wonder, what else there was to learn
Beyond the surface there always hangs a tail
The ground recording ever stride, hoof, claw and toenail
A fox can bark, scream just like you and I
But it knows sometimes silence is the best road to travel by
study your own own tracks, all the scars and smiles
All those dead ends and vast country miles
Then quiet like the fox, find a warm place in the sun
Let the ground take your weight, appreciate how far you’ve come
Impressions in a field beyond space and time
Your story equal parts echo and rhyme
Here a moment, another moment and its gone
a paw print, a whisker another heart song
