Lyrics

A winter disarray of skeletal trees
Where the snow fell heavy, a shroud that refused to ease
There were two hunters, seeking shelter from the blizzard
Praying they could find a place where they could stop the shivers
The storm howled fierce, the air like knives
As if the wind alone could take their very lives that night
Mosaku, wise with the weight of his years
Led his young apprentice, Minokichi, through the frontier
The storm roared louder, skies void of grace
'til they stumbled on a shed that appeared a forgotten place
Timber split by time, yet it stood through the cold
A frail little refuge from the winter's unforgiving hold
Minokichi woke in the dead of night
To an eerie stillness, and when he opened his eyes
He saw her—a woman clothed in white
Her kimono glistening under frost and moonlight
As though carved from ice, her skin pale like porcelain
Drifting in the mist, every movement distorted
She knelt over Mosaku, her face serene
With an expression that almost seemed melancholy
She turned to Minokichi, her gaze inflicted impairment
And though he trembled, it wasn't fear that ensnared him
She was beautiful—tragically, impossibly beautiful
An ethereal haunting of exquisiteness, irrefutable
"Don't be afraid," her voice soft like snowflakes
A delicate sound that only dreams can portray
"I will not harm you, but hearken to my plea
Not a word to any soul—you shall not ever speak of me."
Searching for his voice, Minokichi starts to respond
But a sudden gust of iciness blew through and she was gone
He woke alone with dawn's faint trace
Mosaku lay still beside him, frozen in his place
Yuki
Vows broken that'll never let the winter end
Yuki
Where the name still floats upon the frozen wind
Yuki
Vows broken that'll never let the winter end
Yuki
Where the name still floats upon the frozen wind
Minokichi, growing older, kept this all in silence
Though impacted by his loss, always thinking 'bout how that night went
Then one day, on a bright spring morning
He met a special girl and a connection started forging
Her name was Yuki, a name that matched her grace
Couldn't quite place her, but felt he knew her in a way
Her beauty belonging to a world apart
Made a familiar echo that pierced the depths of his heart
They built a life together with joy and warmth
Even on the chilliest of days, they stayed this course
They had children who inherited their mother's features
Including the enchanting calmness that didn't leave her
Though he was happy, every new winter he felt
A burning inside to tell Yuki what he's kept to himself
One night, when the fire crackled, the kids were asleep
Finding himself gazing at her where she sat by the heat
The snowstorm outside pressed onto his mind
The memory of the woman all dressed in white
"Yuki," he said softly, "you remind me of someone
Something strange happened long ago I can't outrun."
Yuki looked up sharply, her dark eyes meeting his
As if she already knew what was about to be said
"A mysterious woman approached me and my master
Her eyes were just like yours, even spoke in the same manner
But she took his life and made me promise
To never speak of her."
Peculiar, like an act from a kabuki theatre
Yuki rose to her feet, shoulders heavy with despair
As though carrying a weight too great to bear
"Minokichi," her voice breaking, barely making sound
"I am that woman." His heart hit the ground
"I broke the laws of my kind to stay by your side
And I thought it could last a lifetime
But you see you've broken the promise."
Profusely apologizing, begging not to go away
Immediately regretting this massive mistake
I must go, it's not my will, but my fate
If I stay, I will bring you nothing but ruin and pain."
He ran to her, but the house rapidly filled with fog
Her spirit fading like she was never there long
The storm shrieked like a wail of grief
When the wind died, Yuki could no longer be seen
On snowy evenings he found himself near the woods
Calling out her name, and sometimes he swore that he could
See a pale figure watching from afar
In a kimono blending with the snow under the stars
Yuki
Vows broken that'll never let the winter end
Yuki
Where the name still floats upon the frozen wind
Yuki
Vows broken that'll never let the winter end
Yuki
Where the name still floats upon the frozen wind
