 made some all-night drafts, chasing honky-tonk lights, wore attitude like a tattoo on my arm,

 but who we wanna be ain't always who we are.

 Tough ain't what I thought it was, yeah, I've been growing up these days.

 And tough ain't about getting back up, it's learning enough is enough and walking away.

 It's telling your best friend that he's been drinking too hard, taking it too far.

 It's watching Grandma try like hell to remember your name and having no one to blame.

 It's knowing it's your last goodbye, it's holding her and letting her cry.

 Tough ain't what I thought it was, yeah, I've been growing up these days.

 And tough ain't about numbing the pain, it's facing the things you can't change.

 It's taking that next step when you're scared to death, cause you know that your heart's gonna break.

 But you do it anyway.

 And tough is learning sometimes you need help, and learning to forgive yourself for your mistakes.

 And tough looks different for everyone, but if you hang around long enough, you'll end up tough.
