Lyrics

We never rehearsed the ending,
It stumbled out in broken lines.
Your voice cracked like a trumpet’s sigh,
And mine dissolved in borrowed rhymes.
The bass walked heavy through the silence,
Dragging sorrow across the floor.
Each note a step away from closeness,
Each beat a lock on the door.
The saxophone bent into mourning,
Its breath trembling with regret.
It played the sound of distance growing,
Of promises we never met.
The piano faltered, chords unfinished,
Keys chipped by years of strain.
Every melody felt abandoned,
Like conversations left in vain.
The guitar whispered crooked secrets,
Muted strings confessing lies.
It played the song of absence deep,
Of improvised goodbyes.
The harmonica cried with jagged breath,
Dragging sorrow through the night.
It echoed all the words unspoken,
And the truths we failed to fight.
The trumpet spat out bitter tones,
Mocking the bonds that couldn’t last.
It laughed too loud, it spoke too fast,
And left us stranded in the past.
The city hummed beyond the window,
Its neon bleeding through the glass.
But inside the room was empty,
A monument to what won’t last.
I leaned into the broken rhythm,
Letting silence tell the tale.
Every pause became a sentence,
Every breath a mournful wail.
We never rehearsed the ending,
It stumbled out in broken lines.
Improvised goodbyes remain,
A truth that will not mend.
