Lyrics

Oh, come and listen to my story
I'm a bushman who's feeling sad and blue
My pal has gone to rest in heaven
And there's nothing I can do
For many years we worked together
Away out where the great tall timbers grow
Through all fair and stormy weather
A finer pal I'll never know
As we left the camp that morning
We laughed, we joked as we made our way
Out to the bush where we were working
Never dreaming it was our parting day
I remember as Jack's tree was falling
I'll ne'er forget that awful crashing sound
When a limb tore out from a tree behind him
And it pinned my cobber to the ground
With a cry I went and knelt beside him
But as I raised his blood-stained head
My heart stopped beating within me
As I realized my cobberjack was dead
Now you all have heard my story
You know what makes me grieve this way
But when I reach that land of glory
I hope to meet poor Jack some day
