Lyrics

you can't take me anywhere
across the room the corner stares
we got caught red handed in a jar of sweetened tar
black, it stained my straightened teeth
i escaped but narrowly
sometimes i still wonder what if we'd bought my uncle's car
now life feels much quieter
the old dog turns
the tired earth
i was hardly trying and somehow ended up this far
in the morning with the sun above
and lavender growing outside
that robin seems like someone i once loved
we sit a while and watch the tide
a breeze howls through the leaf-less trees
is that you reaching out to me?
the fog lifts off the sound each afternoon as we walk down
to skip stones across the timid swells
haley found an odd-shaped shell
rolled her eyes and laughed when i said
"it looks like an angel fell"
and in the evening with the sky alive
and the neighbors settled down inside
i watch stars shoot across the great divide
and tell myself its one more sign
you're up there finally bursting at the seams
with energy i just cant see
at last you know what you could never know
staring down the highest beams
of a million hidden galaxies
a frenzied brand new way of being
