Lyrics

I've got a steady dull pain that still nags at me
Lie awake at night with old memories
I'm in a padded room in the Chino jail
My father's gonna kill me if he posts my bail
There's a devil on my shoulder and he won't depart
And an angel there to fix mama's broken heart
There may be better days down the road I'm on
But every billboard reminds me of the wrong I've done
Cause fools rushing were angels feared to tread
And the truth of that knocked me upside the head
When the world is quiet I want to scream out loud
Lord, why can't I just be here now
I've got a lot of trepidation for the trail ahead
Will I strike it rich or just wind up dead
I've been rolling for doubles, getting twos and threes
Lost my ass at the tables but still won't leave
Could a love come along to calm this storm
On the dark, cold nights will she keep me warm
If I ain't troubled 'bout the future, I'm stuck in the past
Flying through the present just waiting to crash
The story's better if you don't skip ahead
And there's a couple pages that you'll wish you hadn't read
When the world is quiet I want to scream out loud
Lord, why can't I just be here now
Cause fools rushing were angels feared to tread
And the truth of that knocked me upside the head
When the world is quiet I want to scream out loud
Lord, why can't I just be here now
Thank you very much
So, yeah, I heard Kyle say, be here now, and I went
All right, that's what we're starting with
So this last couple months have been very busy
For my wife and I
She was not my wife three months ago
And we got married on May 25th, 525, 25
And we went from here down to Arizona
And then across the country playing shows
And having a honeymoon
But it makes the honeymoon a tax write-off, so
And we drove all the way down to the Keys
And played some shows down there and had a great honeymoon
And drove all the way back here and it's good to be back
We got back about three weeks ago, I think
And a good way to find out how well you get along with somebody
Is to move into a camper with them
And travel across the country
And so that's kind of what this song's about
But it's actually about a bigger point
Which is the big question
Is it about the journey or the destination
And I found out that it's about neither
It's about the company
And I've got some good company around here, so
I've got some good company around here, so
This song's called Ain't the Journey
