Lyrics

When all the world slipped off its rails
And reason split like shattered sails,
The headlines screamed, the screens would glow,
Each voice too loud to truly know.
He sat beside a dusty pane,
While sirens wept like autumn rain.
His tea grew cold, the daylight dim—
The world went mad, but not with him.
Beneath his house, behind a door,
A secret kept from every war,
A single switch, a scarlet gleam—
More real than any shouted dream.
So the old man chose the red button,
When truth was torn and hope forgotten.
Not for power, not for flame,
Not to conquer, not for fame.
The red button — one last plea:
"How much madness can there be?"
If good and evil blur as one,
Someone must decide it's done.
He'd watched the children learn to shout,
While wiser words were filtered out.
He'd seen the prophets sell their fear,
And call it faith year after year.
The captains burned their maps for pride,
The calmest hearts were pushed aside.
And every crowd demanded more
Of what had broken them before.
So the old man chose the red button,
When mercy rusted, trust was rotten.
Not revenge and not collapse,
Not to widen history's gaps.
The red button — not a blast,
Just a pause to make it last.
When noise became humanity,
Silence held the remedy.
His hand did shake — but not with fright,
It trembled with remembered light:
Of fields in spring, of bread and song,
Of simple days before the wrong.
He whispered low, "Enough pretending."
And pressed — not ending, but suspending.
And no sky burned, no cities fell,
No ringing iron funeral bell.
The shouting stopped. The air stood clear.
For once, the world could truly hear.
The red button did not destroy —
It only stilled the frantic noise.
And in that hush, beneath the sun,
The old man smiled.
"It's time we're done."
