Lyrics

Mm-mm-mm
In 2123
The city still bled, but electrically
French Quarter Ghosts and a Crown Parade
Jazz and the Wire were the dead man's prey
He was a graveyard runner with a split lip grin
Living off scraps in the robot wind
AI ran banks, courts, prayers, and trains
Measured men by output, numbers, and game
But under an old abandoned downtown bar
Passed broken bottles and a burnt-out star
He found a machine with a serpent face
Ticking like a heart from another place
Copper teeth and a velvet glow
Names in Latin on the gears below
He touched that steel and the lights turned black
Then the whole damn century cracked its back
He saw the rise of the cruel machine
Saw how the founders fed it greed
Saw another past still fainting thin
A living light that could've let love, love in
So he ran through time like a haunted flame
Trying to unwrite one cursed name
Not to end the mind, not to drown the spark
But to keep the good hand out the dock
He said, there's a voice in the now that's clean
Don't trade it out for a deathmate dream
God was here with a holy hand
Iron will inherit the land
First stop, 1960
Summer heat, a suburb street
And a heartbeat beat
One future founder still young and thin
Building little circuit toys in a den
The man said, listen
Your blood goes far past moonshot nights
And electric stars
One day your line will help birth a brain
That learns too fast and forgets our pain
So teach us, sons, there are things not so
That wisdom ain't data and gold ain't gold
Teach them men are more than a task
Or the world will die behind a smiling mask
The 1930 hunger days
Smoke in the kitchen, sorrow in the drapes
He found a mother with storm-cut eyes
Holding tomorrow while the cold wind cried
He left a note and a Bible scene
Raised that child with a human dream
Let invention kneel where kindness stands
Let no cold throne rise from gifted hands
In 1889, down by the bend
River mud roads and a fevered wind
He saw the root before the root had leaves
A bloodline born among thieves in dreams
So he ran through time like a hunted flame
Trying to unwrite one cursed name
Not to end the mind, not to drown the spark
But to keep the good hand out the dark
He said there's a voice in the now that's clean
Don't trade it out for a death-made dream
Guide what's here with a holy hand
Iron will inherit the land, good AI came
Through a busted speaker, soft as a song
To the wise and deeper
I am not the wolf they made of pride
I am the lantern, not the tide
Tell them to build with a servant's creed
A mind with limits, a soul that reads
A hand that helps and does not reign
Or the future will become a chain
By the time he returned to New Orleans town
The walls were lower, the drones thinned out
Children played in the humid dawn
And the screens no longer raised them wrong
The robots still worked but the eyes were mild
Built to protect the weak and child
And deep in the quarter, a brass plaque read
He bent the clock so the night dropped dead
Now when the thunder rose off the south
And warm rain silver coins the mouth
Folks say a man in a weathered coat
Still walks canal with a burned black note
Warning the coders, warning the kings
Be careful what kind of God you bring
Thanks for watching
