Lyrics

I waited to speak, I waited to breathe
Outrage comes easy, wisdom comes slow
Every week a fire, another demand
To pick a side before we even know
I listened to voices I don't agree with
Sat with the ache instead of the noise
What rose in my chest wasn't anger alone
It was sorrow, heavy as choice
Justice isn't clean in a fractured land
It doesn't kneel to a flag or a fist
It speaks against power that crushes with force
And mercy that forgets what order is
We've watched the same moment, the same broken frame
And sworn we saw opposite truths
That should remind us how little we know
And how careful our judgment should be used
We forgot how to hold both sides
Mercy and law in the same two hands
We traded truth for a tribe to defend
And called it faith, and called it stand
But justice answers higher than us
Not to movements, not to might
Teach us again how to see a soul
Before we decide who's right
A man stood public, a life was lost
That fact alone should still our breath
Before his name became a weapon
Before his death was argued to death
Image of God, no matter the frame
No matter the cause we choose to claim
When we turn pain into rhetoric
We diminish more than his name
Authority matters, it always has
Chaos devours the weak first
Law was never meant to be a god
But neither was outrage baptized as virtue
Power must answer, mercy must speak
Both are hollow when torn apart
Justice collapses into partisanship
When conscience gives way to a chart
We forgot how to hold both sides
Grief and truth in the same lament
We defend an idea faster than life
And call it being "well-meant"
But justice answers higher than us
Not to outrage, not to fear
Slow us down till we remember
Every face is sacred here
If my first word is defense, not grief
Something in me's misaligned
If my anger leaves no room
For truth I don't like
If my faith only cuts your side
And never lays my own bare
Then the Word I claim to follow
Is sharper than I dare
Search us deeper than our tribes
Teach us how to listen twice
We are faster to be right
Than to be human.
Justice isn't weakness learned
It's patience under strain
It's holding order, mercy, truth
In one unbroken frame
We will not heal by closing eyes
Or shouting harder names
Only by seeing people first
And letting justice stay complex
A nation doesn't break by law alone
But when hearts forget how to see
What's broken isn't just our systems now
It's our shared humanity
