CLOVA
We took the road by Kirriemuir to Angus’s bonnie glens
Glen Isla ,Glen Prosen, Glen Clova, I long to see you again
We tramped the hills through heather bells and saw the red deer roam
And the curlew called to tell us all that we were welcome home.
We climbed the Snub to gaze upon Loch Brandy’s shimmering pool
Then up Green Hill 2000 feet where the air is fresh and cool
The mountain hare was standing there like a statue made of stone
Then we returned to Clova where we were welcome home
From a hole in the dyke at the side of the road two wide eyes peered from a small head
She opened her mouth, bared her teeth, snarled at me and said
Don’t come near me I’ve bairnies three I’ll put ye tae the test
I carried on and left her alone the stoat was guarding her nest
Dusk was nigh when an eagle dived upon unsuspecting prey
And the oyster catchers sang their song by the river the live long day
And the herons flight was a wonderous sight as he rose from the river side
And as we gazed on my friend turned and said ‘ This is where man maun bide’
For years ago this glen was full o people like you and me
They lived by the laws that nature laid doon they lived and loved for free
They drove cattle and whiskey frae Ballater and ower Jocks Road frae Braemar
And on mid summers day they watched the sun come up frae the tap o Lochnagar
And on mid summer’s day we’ll watch the sun come up from the tap o Lochnagar
