Lyrics

The Bowery, the bowels, the beast of the city. Hide your privilege as effectively as Charles Darwin hid his misogyny. The sky is falling. Give me another ten examples of things that should really bother me. Up in court on charges of grand larceny. The gun in the glove box was just a talking piece. Icebreaker on the third date. He devoured every crumb on the dinner plate. Natural wines imported. Barely needed a knife to cut through the steak. Brown packages get passed around under streetlights. The bodies are found early in the
morning by the runners. Never believe them when they say he just up and left town. Kawasaki donuts in baseball diamonds. The cops came through so quick as if they knew just where to find us. Fell the tree in six swings, fell the forest in two months. The valley lit up with burning properties. Charred corpses. Identification by signet ring and the occasional molar. Forensics teams sift through the rubble. Turns out the blaze began late at night in the paddock where they keep the horses. Glue supply to see us through the winter and well into the future. Still licking stamps to put on letters of condolence. They arrive in the mailboxes that still open. Disturbed teenagers post images online of those that almost escaped the flames. Screams reportedly heard for hours but no one came, no one came. They were too busy moving in. Let the steel gates close behind you. We came here for a different way of living. Life will be better. Lies in the ears of local constituents. Turn them slowly like a hog on a stick. Straight through the mouth. Hang 'em high, bleed them dry, until their lungs give out. Kill the capo. Comrades in combat. The sediment of common life. You will not be remembered. You were not remembered as the sun sets. The Bowery, the bowels, the beast of the city.
