Lyrics

I hid a note in a bottle a long time ago
Proud of the letters and answers I wrote
Blue ink like the sea, with the pen my mum gave to me
So I waded throw water, put my lips to the glass
But my little arm couldn’t throw it that far
Drifted away, hope that it’s read someday
What if the reader wanted to know
The stories & reasons behind what I’d thrown
Would I be happy if I was the one
Who picked up the bottle and read what I’d done
Would I feel guilty or would I feel proud
If little old me could see the me now
Now that I’m older I know what I’d say
Dreaming is fun, but you’ll wake up some day
The pen ran out dry, but at least you can say you tried
Now I’m still waiting to hear a reply
From the bottle you threw with all our hopes inside
‘Cause growing up shows: there’s only so long to go

What if the water got into the glass
Blurred all the messages, changed up my past
As soon as you threw it, it was out of our hands
Something that eight-year-old me didn’t plan
Would I be happy if I was the one
Who picked up the bottle and read what I’d done
Would I feel guilty or would I feel proud
If little old me could see the me now
See the me now
I know I’d be happy with what I have done
I know it looks different from when I was young
No need to feel guilty, ‘cause I make me proud
By being the version of me I am now
