Lyrics

Never seen that car before.
Never heard that motor.
But when the light went green,
we both knew what the hell this was.
Midnight road, no crowd, no plan,
just my headlights cutting through smoke and sand.
Then you roll up close with your bumper low,
window half down like, “You ready to go?”
No names traded, no peace sign thrown,
just a throttle tap talking in a language we know.
Your exhaust cracks, mine answers back,
two stray wolves sliding on the same damn track.
First bend comes and I see you swing,
back end loose like a loaded spring.
I clutch kick in, let the tires scream,
now we are door-to-door in a gasoline dream.
Your chase line tight, my lead line wide,
quarter-inch trust on a two-lane slide.
Random stranger, but the angle feels planned,
like the road itself put the wheel in our hands.
Brake late.
Drop gear.
Smoke thick.
Stay near.
No words.
No fear.
Sideways when the guardrail appears.
Tandem with The Random, sliding through the night.
Two wild cars with the same damn bite.
I do not know you, but I know that line.
Hold it close if you trust mine.
The Random tandem, smoke in the air.
Door-to-door like we were born right there.
No lift, no luck, no backing down.
Just two lost engines tearing up the town.
Second corner, you dive inside,
I leave just enough for the devil to ride.
Tires spit sparks off the painted lane,
we are laughing through danger like we love the pain.
Mirror full of your headlights dancing,
front wheels cutting, rear wheels chanting.
If one of us slips, both cars pay,
but neither one of us came here to play it safe.
I do not need your name to respect your nerve.
You held that bumper through the whole damn curve.
You did not flinch when the rail got close.
You stayed in the smoke like a road-born ghost.
That is not racing, that is trust with teeth,
that is fire underneath, that is no retreat.
That is two machines and a pulse gone feral,
threading one mistake through a shotgun barrel.
Maybe you are running from something.
Maybe I am running too.
Maybe the road does not ask much
from fools like me and you.
It just says, “Hold angle.”
It just says, “Stay clean.”
It just says, “If you are going to burn,
then burn like you mean.”
Lead car!
Chase close!
Smoke wall!
Throttle ghost!
No lift!
Hold line!
Your door!
My side!
Just two lost engines tearing up town.
Next light came.
You split left.
I went right.
Never got your name.
Still the cleanest run of my life.
