Lyrics

My grandfather had a moustache,
He always told me it was a must have
He said it was in memory of fallen friends
He never shaved it, kept it till the very end
My grandfather on my mother's side
The Maki family a well-to-do, post world war II
Come from nothing, dusted off his shoulder started selling paint
Hustling all the way to slanging real estate
But the story is the war, no morals nothing more
Than a propaganda geo-politics in a fog
And you wouldn't know that, when you're just a cog
In a wheel, a classic tail wagging the dog
A pawn on the board serves a king and a queen
You can't look back, hop in a time machine
So you keep marching forward till the end of the beam
When they say jump, better pray and take a leap of faith
If you have any left in this system
Is it mandatory service, draft, or enlistment
What's the point of life if you can't live how you choose
Guess it's a luxury I can't afford to lose
My grandfather had a moustache,
He always told me it was a must have
He said it was in memory of fallen friends
He never shaved it, kept it till the very end
So the story goes like this, he was stationed in Japan
Somewhere on the westside, but not on the front line
Had skills in calligraphy, he landed an office job
Could have very well been shipped to a foreign dock
He worked to bone like everybody else
Let the hygiene slide no blade on the shelf
Had a scruff on his face that his friends made a joke of
So much so he said alright I'll do it, buzz off
A lighthearted banter in the middle of a conflict
When everyday life takes a back seat to accomplish
Mission after mission, now he steps out the building
To freshen up, they weren't wrong so, oh well then
That's when a bomb struck the block he just left
And everybody died instantly, a hot mess
So do the math if his friends never made him leave
I wouldn't be here to rap, let alone breathe
My grandfather had a moustache,
He always told me it was a must have
He said it was in memory of fallen friends
He never shaved it, kept it till the very end
