Lyrics

Welcome to the grand opening.
The exhibit of a lifetime.
Don’t touch the art. It’s fragile.
In the foyer, there’s a portrait of a man who’s always happy
The colors are vibrant, the lighting is snappy
He’s got a perfect smile and a look in his eye
That says he’s never once thought about wanting to die
But if you look closer, past the frame and the glass
You can see where the paint is starting to mass
Around the edges of the mouth, where the cracks are showing
Underneath the surface, there’s a storm that is growing
This is the version I show to the world
The flag of my sanity, neatly unfurled
But keep walking, down the hall to the left
To the room where the soul is feeling bereft.
Watch the colors bleed, watch the image fade
Look at the mess that the master has made
It’s a gallery of lies, a museum of masks
Don’t bother with the questions that nobody asks.
Welcome to the gallery, take a look around
At the pieces of a person that are waiting to be found
There’s a sculpture of my sorrow and a mural of my fear
But the masterpiece is the fact that I’m still here
Yeah, it’s beautiful and broken, it’s a terrifying sight
The display of a man trying to find the light!
Now we’re in the basement, where the lights are all dim
This is the room where I keep all of "him"
The "him" that is angry, the "him" that is small
The "him" that is screaming and clawing the wall
This isn't for public consumption or praise
This is the wreckage of my darker days
The sketches of failure, the ink-blots of shame
The part of the artist that has no name
You’re uncomfortable? Good! So am I!
I’m tired of the "aesthetic" and the social-media lie
I’m exposing the basement, I’m opening the door
I’m not gonna hide this part of me anymore!
The gallery is closed.
The tour is over.
But the artist is finally...
Authentic.
I burned down the gallery, I threw away the masks
I’m answering the questions that everyone asks
I’m not a portrait, I’m not a display
I’m a living, breathing person in a world of decay
Yeah, the gallery is empty, but the soul is finally clear
And the masterpiece is the fact that I’m still here!
I’m going outside now.
The lighting is better.
