I remember sleeping through my alarm clock for the fourth time that week

And having to sprint to the station in order to not miss my train, but I still missed it anyway

And on the way to the station I stopped into the supermarket

And bought myself a stale croissant and a cold coffee

And when I finally did get to the station, I got on the next train and sat, not in my usual seat but by the window

And opened the free paper, and I opened it to a story about a bloke who had found his long-lost brother in the bakery after 45 years of not seeing him, and he recognised him

And I remember calling you at lunchtime after I got the ite news and asking you what you thought about it

And you said well I'm not really sure, I'm gonna have to think it over and discuss it later – you always wanted to discuss things later

And I remember when I finally did get home you were standing in the hallway to greet me

And I said, well have you thought about it?

And you said well I still haven't really come to much of a conclusion but I phoned my mum and my dad and two of my best mates and they didn't really know what to say either

They said well it's just the kinda thing you're gonna have to work out for yourself

Well I guess you do have to work it out for yourself

And I remember what we did later

I remember you cooked that beautiful French casserole that your grandma had taught you how to cook

And cooking was one of the few things that you could do pretty well, even though you claimed to do a lot of things really well

And I remember what we watched on TV afterwards, we watched some reruns of some ancient cop show from America

And I even remember what I did the next day and the next day and the next day

And the weekend – I went and met up with my friend Michael and he told me he had just got somebody pregnant and asked me what I think he should do about it

And I said well I'm not really sure man I don't know what to tell you

I remember what I ate for dinner

I remember what I ate for breakfast

And I remember how the weather was

And I remember what shirt I was wearing that day

And I remember everything about it
