Şarkı sözleri

If you always expect the worst
You’ll suffer your whole life
And even if the worst should come
It only means you suffered twice
You’re no stranger to crests and troughs
You’ve been up and down
You’ve given it your best and lost
I know it’ll mess ya head up when every shot
Has hit the post or it’s been close
And I get why you’d get pissed off
But too often the author of our demise is ourself
So be cautious with the story that you write and then tell
And before you decide that it’s all a write off
Just for once let your inner cynic take the night off
You don’t always have to think the worst
I used to have it bad, so don’t worry you aren’t the first
When someone knocked at my door
It meant I was getting robbed
When I was driving at night
It meant I was getting stopped
Private number calling
Meant that somebody died
Applying for a job
Meant someone else was more qualified
Meeting someone new meant
We won’t have the same humour
And a minor headache meant that it’s a brain tumour
If you always expect the worst
You’ll suffer your whole life
And even if the worst should come
It only means you suffered twice
It only means you’ve suffered twice
I beg you don’t waste your life
There’s still a shot things just might
Go right
Fear makes us risk averse
And mixed with a nervous disposition
Paralysis occurs
Over analysis is a curse
Overactive amygdala
I’m built to expect the worst
I figure
This verse is a safe vantage point
I’m not a gambling man
But if ya had a coin
And flipped it
I’d call heads and expect tails
I guess failure’s my default
Is that the fault of a family void
Of ambition or a condition
Of being raised
In working class Britain
When Thatcherism reigned?
I was a minor when miners
Were made redundant
When balances hit minuses
I find myself wondering
If coming up in that climate
Meant them ideas funnelled in
To my mind
And that environment and I have become one
You learn to internalise the assumption
That something will go wrong
I’ll be surprised if doesn’t
Small towns where boundaries count
Where we all look inwards
There’s bound to be doubt
Maybe it’s just this town
Maybe its just the north
Or maybe it’s the country
‘Cause I struggle to endorse
The cynicism
That’s inherent in Britain
Where giving compliments
Comes second to criticisms
We’re experts at expressing our misgivings
At kissing teeth and tutting
As if everything’s shit and
Look how that affects our everyday language
You ask if I’m alright
I say I’m not bad, which
Is strange ‘cause I’m good
But I’m not expressing this
Instead I say not bad
The word bad gets the emphasis
Now that’s subtle but that the words that we choose
Repeated over time turn into our attitudes
So if I’m good, why would I focus on bad?
A Subconscious habit most of us don’t know we have
And if you’re like me
And if it’s in your nature to be inward facing
You could probably write a dissertation
On your limitations
We’re so used to that
Cycle of anticipation
Then disappointment
Then disengagement
The rope
That Your fingertips slipped away from
Is called hope
And I lost my grip on the same one
But still
I have to believe that despite
Every habit I inherit
Every myth I recite
There’s still a possibility
Even if it’s slight
That things just might
I said there’s still a possibility
Even if it’s slight
That things just might
Go right
