The Foggy Dew

I am a bachelor, I live all alone

I work at the weaving trade

And the only thing I ever did wrong

Was to woo a fair young maid

I wooed her in the winter time

And in the summer too

And the only thing I ever did wrong

Was to keep her from the foggy dew

One night she came to my bedside

When all were fast asleep

She leaned her head up against my bed

And she began to weep

She sighed, she cried, she nearly died

She said, "What shall I do?"

So I put her into bed and covered up her head

To keep her from the foggy dew

Now I am a bachelor, I live with my son

We work at the weaving trade

And every time I look in his eyes

He reminds me of the fair young maid

He reminds me of the winter time

And of the summer too

And the many, many times I held her in my arms

To keep her from the foggy dew
