Don’t know much of all those years

But I still remember how we stood around her

Wondering who would blink

Trying not to giggle, to break the silence

Waiting on the sirens, coming down the street

Who were we to make the call

Would we be in trouble

If we didn’t let her go

All she wanted for so long

Was a way to find a little relief

The first time she planned for days

How not to forget her

As I worked beside her

Going through her things

It was hanging in the air

Who should have the ring
