Crying Over Stitches

It was only yesterday

That I truly saw the stitches

Careful and so neat

Spelling out my name

On the edge of my pillow

The place where I sleep

The silver stars and the red suns

It must not have been easy

You were standing, you were there

Right in front of me, you never forgot

How free and easy it was to be you and me

I stopped remembering

Focused on other things

It's funny how I've read

This story once before

You don't know what you've got

Until its gone

And I often looked at those stitches

But I never really saw

I guess I wanted it to be the same

As when we were green beans

I didn't want to let you change

As you had let me

You flew away across the water

We don't speak much now

Maybe I should call

You were standing, you were there
